The Blair County Arts Foundation is proud to present another season of Family Theatre at the Mishler. A series of carefully chosen, high-quality, family productions performed live in downtown Altoona’s historic Mishler Theatre. There’s something about watching a story unfold live before your very eyes. The energy of a live theatrical experience; complete with costumes, lights, scenery, and music; is nothing short of magical! The Family Theatre at the Mishler series was developed by BCAF in 1986 to create more cultural opportunities for young people. With the consistently declining budget allocations for arts programs within the school district, the continuation of these valuable programs becomes an even greater priority. This annual series of professional productions attracts nearly 20,000 children, parents, and educators each season and makes a significant contribution to the early childhood educational process.
You can subscribe to the entire series of shows and save 10% off the price of individual tickets. Subscriptions are available for sale until October 3, 2025. Please contact the Mishler Box Office at 814-944-9434 to purchase a subscription. Prices are as follows:

Welcome to ancient Greece, where the focus is on the big tournament! The Olympic Games are starting soon and the Cyclopes and Titans are both expecting to win big in the games. But the tournament can’t start without Hercules. Will the legendary strongman of the ancient world spark the flame and start the festivities on time, or will his legendary tardiness get in the way of the games?
*Audition information will be released in September.*
The classic tale Peter & the Wolf comes to life through the music of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra, with narration provided by professional actor Oliver Palmer. The story surrounds Peter, who lives with his grandfather and has been told to stay in the yard. However, when he disobeys and leaves the yard, Peter encounters a wolf who has left the forest and danger ensues! The instruments portray the characters and weave throughout the story to create a beautifully orchestrated tale.
A whimsical reinvention of Dickens’ most beloved Christmas story in wacky rhymed couplets. With zoot fruited juices and binka bird geese, from Ded-Headed Fred to Timmy Loo Hoo, this tale of glorious holiday cheer is similar to something Dr. Seuss might have come up with…if he ever had his way with the story!
In this musical adaptation of everyone’s favorite sarcastic tubby tabby, Garfield awakens to find his birthday – the most important day of the year – has fallen on a Monday. The horror! To make matters worse, all his friends have completely forgotten it’s his big day. Only his teddy bear, Pookie, understands his disappointment. Feeling rejected, Garfield leaves home but soon realizes on the outside there’s no T.V., the food is garbage (literally), and animal control is always just around the corner. In the end, Garfield learns little things like, you know, the value of friendship and that “home is where the heart (and the food) is.”
Spheres is bringing their amazing bubble show back to the Mishler for the 4th time with the debut of their new show “Orbs”.
