When George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion” was adapted into a musical, it quickly became a hit. Eliza Doolittle, a feisty Cockney flower girl wanting to better herself, asks an arrogant phonetics professor for speech lessons to make her sound like a lady. Not only does Henry Higgins accept the challenge, but he turns it into a wager with the claim that he’ll pass her off as an eloquent upper-class socialite, and the sparks begin to fly … including sparks of romance!
A classic that has transcended the years, “My Fair Lady” remains one of the most “loverly” shows ever written and we are very excited to present Altoona Community Theatre’s 45th Anniversary production of it in loving memory of our Eliza from 1972 SERENA STEVENS.
